Last year, some events were very successful and well-attended, while others, not so much. We recently sent out a questionnaire and I encourage you to complete it as this will help us with scheduling compelling events for next year.
I've been working on increasing the value to our members. To this end, I have arranged some discounts. Trotac has agreed to a P2 discount, which varies on the purchased item. Spencers Marine Supply in Sidney has agreed to a 10% discount on all non sale items. Discounts at All Battery in Langford are under negotiation. We are also offering near trade pricing from Paynes Marine / Land and Sea. The link to their catalogue is below.
This is a good deal for our members. For example, a gallon of Micron CSC antifouling paint, which retails at $372, will be available to our club for $264. The club will retain 10% to boost our funds, and the rest of the discount will be passed on to members. This means a club member would pay $290 plus tax, a total saving of $76 on this item alone. As this is wholesale pricing there will be a minimum order of $250.00 but we can pool our orders to make up the minimum.
We have some events planned. On December 8th at 5 PM, we will meet at the Bistro in Port Browning Marina and we will have a presentation on transiting the Panama Canal from a cruiser’s perspective. This event is open to anyone so please get the word out.
On January 19th 2026, we are planning an open house, also likely at the Bistro, and hope to welcome new members. If you know of anyone who might be interested, this would be a good introduction.
In February, we will hold our Annual General Meeting; it’s just over a year since the club was registered as a society.
After that we will continue to meet on the second Monday of the month until the summer .
I hope you will mark these dates in your calendar and that we will have a good turnout.
We decided against having a Christmas party this year based on last year’s feedback. Instead, after the talk on the Panama Canal, those interested are welcome to gather for dinner at the Port Browning Pub.
Please spread the word that membership is open. You don't need to own a boat to join and definitely do not need to be an expert! Non-members can crew with others, attend events, or just enjoy our social gatherings throughout the year. I encourage you to bring a friend along at any time.
Thank you.
