Message from the Commodore

Hello Members:

We held the first executive meeting of 2025 on Tuesday, January 7.

This is an update to let you know we are tackling some housekeeping tasks first.

Item one is to investigate whether Pender Islands Yacht Club is currently registered as a society. This may entail registering as a non - profit society which is a necessary requirement to obtaining third party liability insurance which is item 2. Currently the club does not carry this for any on-water events and could result in personal financial exposure for the directors.

These two items are a priority, and the executive is moving ahead to deal with them. Hopefully there will only be a modest financial outlay.

Until these are resolved, the club will not be sponsoring or organizing any sailing events including racing.

Looking ahead, we are also in search of a Race Captain. If you have any racing experience, please consider volunteering for this important role!

We are planning a “Get Together” on February 17th at Port Browning at 5pm. We should be able to provide an update. There will be a speaker (to be announced) so it should be a great evening. We look forward to seeing you then!
